Every donated organ represents the opportunity to save a life—but today’s preservation limits mean many cannot reach a compatible recipient in time. Through a collaboration between NSF ATP-Bio and NSF EARTH, researchers are developing innovative cryopreservation and refrigerant technologies that could one day make long-term organ banking possible.
