ATP-Bio’s Convergent Research activities are organized along 3 main Thrust Areas (TA1 to TA3) that tackle the main challenges encountered in cryopreservation: toxicity of the Cryoprotectant Agents (CPAs) introduced in the biological systems before cooling, formation of deleterious ice during cooling, and thermal stresses and ice recrystallization following slow or non uniform rewarming. ATP-Bio develops technologies from basic science principles to circumvent these challenges. Such technologies are tested on four broad categories of living systems of increasing organizational complexity, the ATP-Bio testbeds: cells, tissues and microphysiological systems (MPS), organs, and organisms.
