SUMMARY:Society for Cryobiology: The Passive Lunar Cryorepository Project
DESCRIPTION:Could the Moon become a backup drive for life on Earth?\nYou’ve heard about plans for a lunar biobank\, but what would it actually take to preserve Earth’s biodiversity off-world? \nSpeakers Mary Hagedorn (Smithsonian Institution and ATP-Bio SAB Member)\, Heath Mills (Rhodium Scientific)\, and  Garret Fitzpatrick (Center for Astrophysics\, Harvard University) will discuss an overview of the proposed project before diving deeper into engineering aspects of the lunar mission and the effects of spaceflight on preservation of different cell types and related logistical considerations. \nREGISTER NOW\n \nATP-Bio’s work in biopreservation is reaching beyond Earth \nWe encourage the cryo-community to attend and share the Society for Cryobiology webinar\, “The Passive Lunar Cryorepository Project\,” on Wednesday\, September 23 at 12:00 p.m. CT. \nThe webinar is especially relevant to ATP-Bio’s growing impact in biodiversity preservation. NSF supplemental funding is supporting ATP-Bio investigator Mary Hagedorn’s project\, “Building Space-Ready Biopreservation Technologies: Validating Cryopreservation Under Real Space Conditions Using the International Space Station National Laboratory.” This work is helping advance technologies needed to preserve Earth’s biodiversity under the unique conditions of space and supports the broader vision of a lunar biorepository. \nDuring the webinar\, Mary Hagedorn\, Garret Fitzpatrick\, and Heath Mills will explore the scientific\, engineering\, and logistical challenges involved in making a lunar biorepository a reality—including the provocative question: Could the Moon become a backup for life on Earth? \nPlease consider attending and help amplify this event by sharing it with trainees\, students\, faculty\, colleagues\, industry partners\, and professional networks who may be interested in cryobiology\, biodiversity preservation\, space science\, and biopreservation. \n \n\n\nNSF ATP-Bio is an Engineering Research Center – Grant No. EEC 1941543

SUMMARY:4th Annual Minnesota Organoid Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Minnesota Organoid Symposium 2026\nJoin University of Minnesota\, Mayo Clinic\, and R&D Systems for the 4th annual Minnesota Organoid Symposium focused on advancing organoid models. \n\nR&D Systems Headquarters\, Minneapolis\, MN  |  September 30\, 2026  |  8:30 AM – 5:30 PM \nA Premier Minnesota Collaboration Driving Organoid Innovation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin researchers from academia\, clinical research\, and nonprofit organizations at the 4th Annual Minnesota Organoid Symposium to explore advances in biologically relevant organoid models. Scientific sessions will cover immune cell integration\, technologies for evaluating organoid complexity\, and the future of non-animal models (NAMs). Hosted at R&D Systems headquarters in Minneapolis\, the symposium features expert presentations\, poster sessions\, and networking opportunities with leaders from the University of Minnesota\, Mayo Clinic\, and R&D Systems. \n\n\n\n\n\nKey Areas of Focus\n\n\nThis year’s symposium focuses on enhancing the biological relevance of organoid systems by incorporating immune components and multi-cellular interactions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImmune Cell Integration Into Organoid Systems: Explore strategies to incorporate immune components into organoid models to better recapitulate human biology and disease.\nTechnologies To Evaluate Organoid Complexity: Discover tools that enable deeper characterization and validation of complex organoid models.\nAugmenting Disease Models in Organoids: Explore how increasingly sophisticated organoid models are accelerating translational research and therapeutic development.\nFuture of Non-Animal Models (NAMs): Discover the importance of non-animal models (NAMs) in shaping the future of disease modeling and therapeutic development.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSecure Your Spot: Join a highly curated group of researchers\, clinicians\, and innovators for this impactful one-day symposium. Space is limited. \nFor more information and registration details click below.
